Our Fly Fishing Classes for 2010 will begin this Sunday June 6th and continue every Sunday during June. These classes will include one half day casting outside, and a half of a day in classroom (fly shop). Class room portion will include: entomology (going through many fly patterns), an hour of knot tying (learning basic fly fishing knots), and equipment (rods, reels, flyline, backing, waders, boots, vests, leaders, tippets, and necessary tools for beginners).
Casting usually consists of about three hours of training and practice. Students will learn single haul, reach cast and roll cast to begin with. Several instructors will accompany the students at the park. All students need to practice between two to three hours. Nice weather is a very important for the casting portion of the lesson.
Students need no equipment for the class. However, if they have their own equipment, they may bring it and use it in class. Instructors will make sure that their equipment is properly put together and compatible and not too obsolete.
Fly casting lessons will be given in two forms: separately in two hour sessions; and within a Fly Fishing format. Lessons will be taught at the Park either on a Saturday or Sunday or in the evening during summer months.
Beginning Fly Tying Classes start Tuesday night January 12th at 6:30 pm. These three hour classes will be held at the same time for five consecutive Tuesday night. The instructor will provide all the tools and hooks and materials in the classroom. However, as the class moves forward, students will be expected to practice tying new patterns at home. Therefore, students will be responsible for their own tools and hooks and material. Patterns for the classes will include: Whooly Bugger, San Juan Worm, Hares Ear Nymph, Prince Nymph, Elk Hair Caddis, and the Adams.
Rod building classes will start Wednesday night January 13th at 6:30 pm. These three hour classes will be held at the same time for five consecutive Wednesday nights.
